Cindy Koch (Cook) is the founder and owner of Aging at 5280, a trusted resource dedicated to helping seniors navigate the complexities of healthcare and transition to appropriate housing when staying at home is no longer an option. With a background in building successful businesses across hospitality, real estate, and senior care, Cindy brings a wealth of experience and a passion for improving the lives of older adults and has helped shape senior living into a viable and ethical industry. Cindy works with heart to find holistic and well-considered solutions for older adults, always ensuring their needs and goals are met.
Cindy is a 2012 graduate from University of Denver and worked at DU for five years as the assistant to David Corsun the Director of the Knoebel School of Hospitality. She holds a master’s degree in Organizational Management and Leadership from the University of Denver, with a thesis on aging in Colorado through a meditation lens. Her father and Aunt are both graduates from the University of Denver. This foundation led her to open a non-medical home care agency and became one of the first certified placement and referral specialists in the country.
Cindy has played a significant role in shaping the senior living industry, emphasizing holistic solutions. Cindy is one of the first Certified Placement and Referral Agents in the country, has served as president of the National Placement and Referral Alliance (NPRA) and the first President and a founding member of the Colorado Placement and Referral Alliance (COPRA), a trade organization for placement agents and senior living communities to create governance, best practices and education to help better serve our aging population.
Recognizing that change in healthcare is often slow, Cindy emphasizes the importance of education in planning for aging. She offers seminars for seniors and their adult children to help them anticipate the next steps and make time.
As Colorado’s senior care industry experiences rapid growth, Cindy recognizes that many aging needs are often crisis-driven, making decision-making overwhelming and confusing for both the older individual and their family. This growth also brings an influx of potentially poorly informed advice, which can leave families feeling uncertain about the best steps to take. Through Aging at 5280, Cindy provides reliable guidance to ensure families can make confident, well-informed decisions during these critical moments for meaningful aging conversations.
In her personal life, she’s married, has two grown stepchildren, two step-grandchildren, and enjoys reading, skiing, hiking, golfing, and global traveling with her husband and many friends.
Aging at 5280 is here to help elders and their families navigate through the healthcare system and customize a plan to meet their needs.
Koch enjoys speaking to audiences regarding best practices, servant leadership, and ethics for the ever changing environment that is Denver’s aging population.
